Los Angeles' First VegWeek a Success!

kick-off partyLos Angeles' first VegWeek got underway with a kick-off party on Sun., July 11 with more than 100 people in attendance, delicious vegan food, and special guests Assemblymember Ted Lieu and Celebrity Chef Chloe Coscarelli. 

At the event, Asm. Ted Lieu presented Compassion Over Killing with a Certificate of Appreciation for sponsoring Los Angeles VegWeek. Congressman Brad Sherman, Asms. Ted Lieu and Pedro Nava, and more than 50 others signed onto our pledge to go veg for the week and several Los Angeles businesses participated  by offering new veg menu items or discounts on existing veg items, cooking classes, and more! Compassion Over Killing is excited to present Los Angeles VegWeek, a week-long celebration offering a wonderful opportunity to explore the many delicious vegetarian options available in and around the City of Angels as a simple yet effective step each of us can take to help protect the planet, our health, and animals—one meal at a time. Los Angeles VegWeek includes a kick-off party and VegWeek specials at many local veg-friendly businesses.

There are 52 weeks in a year, and Los Angeles VegWeek is encouraging you to dedicate at least one of those weeks to explore vegetarian cuisine. It's easy! Just sign up today to pledge to choose vegetarian foods for the week of July 11-17, and you'll receive daily email updates with nutritional information, delicious recipes, and motivational advice to help you succeed in your week-long pledge.

Who's Pledging to Go Veg?

Born and raised in Southern California, Congressman Brad Sherman represents District 27, including California's San Fernando Valley. During his tenure in Congress, Rep. Sherman has developed a reputation as a strong advocate for consumer rights, the interests of working families, and strong environmental standards.

Assemblymember Pedro Nava

Assemblymember Pedro Nava

Assemblymember Pedro Nava represents California's District 35 just north of Los Angeles. He has shown a strong commitment to public safety, emergency preparedness and protecting the environment, earning one of the highest environmental protection voting records while he served on the California Coastal Commission. Assemblymember Nava also co-chairs the newly established California Animal Protection Caucus.

Assemblymember Ted Lieu

Assemblymember Ted W. Lieu represents the 53rd Assembly District, which includes Venice, parts of Los Angeles, Torrance, and Lomita. As an activist legislator, he has taken on special interests and successfully authored laws in the areas of the environment, education, health care, and more. Prior to his election to the California Assembly, Lieu served on the Torrance City Council where he worked with the Friends of Torrance Animals to improve the quality of animal control services and reduce the unnecessary euthanization of animals.
